Health Museum

Studio IV – B. Arch (M. S. University, India)

This is one of my favorite projects from the initial studios of B.Arch when all drawings were hand rendered with the difficult task of white inking on dark blue sheets. It was like making a painting! The project was to make a health museum for children. Inspired by the gradual rising levels of Guggenheim museum typology, I thought of exploring a crescent shape that gradually increased in height. Each level could be used for a different exhibit. So, let us say, the first level could house items on basic health awareness, it could gradually go higher in the level of health awareness like understanding of the nervous system and brain. The exit from the top level goes below to the lower level into a cafe and gift shop, from where people could get out of the museum into outdoor landscaping. Some of the spaces below the rising levels could be used for service and admin areas. Also, each level could have central skylight. The organic landscaping around the crescent shape museum blended the built form with the surroundings.
