Global Studio is a place-based action research program where international students, academics, and professionals come together with local universities, local government, NGOs, and CBOs to collaborate with disadvantaged communities. Global Studio projects are community-driven projects that share a common goal of the promotion of inclusive urbanization to improve the lives of the urban poor through innovations in participatory design and planning. The studio site in Vancouver was located in East Vancouver around Hasting street which faced issues and challenges of economically and socially marginalized populations. The studio work was conducted with community groups to guide the design solution and planning recommendations. At the end of the studio, the project ideas and proposals were presented back to the communities.
